Benjamin Sesko is steadily becoming the striker Manchester United thought they were signing.
With back-to-back goals in the Premier League, Air Sesko has certainly taken off.
He found the net at the Gtech Stadium in United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford, then doubled the lead at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon in a 2-0 win.
His effort against the Bees may have been lost in the result, but against the Black Cats, it was impossible to ignore.
The £73.7 million signing offered glimpses of just how complete a striker he can be.
He linked play brilliantly, ran the channels with purpose, showed sharp positional awareness, and dominated aerial duels.
Since that eye-catching performance against Sunderland, praise has poured in.
And now, his compatriot Jaka Bijol (a Leeds United defender) is the latest to rave about United’s No. 30.
Quoted by Ekipa, the Slovenian defender spoke glowingly of Sesko, admitting:
“I’m very happy that he found his way. Because the people in England are quite ruthless. And I’m very happy for him that this pressure has at least fallen off his shoulders a little.
“I hope it continues like this and that he’ll already be scoring the goals we need for our current aims in the national team shirt.
“It’s true there’s a rivalry between us, so I hope these words won’t be translated too much or misunderstood.
“I’m happy for Benjamin—I can’t be for Manchester United. (laughs) But the derby will come soon and I’ll be able to say more then.”
Given the fierce Leeds–United rivalry, Bijol’s admission will raise eyebrows.
But as Richard Steele once wrote, “Praise from an enemy is the most pleasing of all commendations.”
That said, the October international break could not have come at a worse time for Sesko.
Just as he seemed to have found his goalscoring touch at United, his momentum may be halted with this break.
United fans will hope he carries that form into the international stage.
Head coach Ruben Amorim will be counting on him to return firing, ready to drop a striking masterclass at Anfield in a crucial United win that could spark a long-awaited resurgence. A revival Red Devils fans are desperate to see.
