Benjamin Sesko lifts lid on how he turned things around at Man United after tough start | OneFootball

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has detailed how he overcame his early setbacks at the club as he continues to enjoy a rich vein of form.

Terrific form

Sesko was the hero for United yet again as he came on from the bench to score the winner and secure all three points for United against Everton on Monday evening.

The goal was a thing of beauty, started and finished by the man himself. After showcasing his blistering pace to leave James Tarkowski trailing, he applied a superb finish to round off a devastating counter-attack.

The strike marked Sesko’s third since Michael Carrick took charge of the team. All three of his goals have secured points for United. He also bagged the winner against Fulham before scoring deep into stoppage time at West Ham to rescue a point. Then there was his goal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Remarkably, Sesko has delivered all of that in just 98 minutes on the pitch. His strike rate under Carrick stands at a goal every 32.66 minutes.

The Slovenian spoke to reporters after the final whistle and indicated that Carrick and his coaching staff are preparing him to start games moving forward. With numbers like that, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Carrick to justify leaving him on the bench while he is in such red-hot form.

Sesko also granted an interview to Norwegian journalist Jan Aage Fjørtoft and admitted that he initially found life at Old Trafford challenging, but with the help of his teammates, he is now gaining confidence.

Sesko’s remarks

The striker told Fjørtoft about his goal, “When I saw the ball getting played over to Brian, I knew that I was going to get in front of the defender because I believed so much that I was going to get this ball.”

“And once I got myself into the position, I just tried to stay calm and score.”

Sesko stressed that it wasn’t an easy goal.

“No, no. In this kind of situation, I would say this kind of chance is kind of the hardest, because you have so much time and you can think in so many ways. But yeah, it’s really important then to just go for one decision and really put 100% into that.”

On not starting as much as he’d like, Sesko explained, “For me, it’s just important to prepare myself already, not just when the game starts, for whatever minutes.”

“To leave everything out there and try to help the team. Because in the end, that’s why I’m here. I want to help the team, I want to score goals, and that’s important.”

Asked about coming to England with a big price on his head, Sesko explained, “No, of course in the start it’s a bit difficult, because everything is new. But I got a lot of help from my teammates, which is really important. They helped me when I was settling. I feel the confidence growing, and again, that’s what’s important.”

On his goals both for the club and personally, he said, “For Manchester United, definitely to reach the Champions League — that’s really important for us. And for me, I’m just going to keep on going and see how high I can go.”

“And for me, I don’t even know. I’m just going to keep working and see how far I can go, how high I can go.”

Sesko and United return to action on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace.
