Bernardo Silva could be reunited with two of his former Manchester City teammates, with one club reportedly holding ‘serious interest’ in the midfielder.
For months there have been rumours and reports speculating where Bernardo Silva could go next, with boyhood club Benfica among the favourites for a free transfer agreement alongside Serie A side Juventus – who are reportedly willing to offer him a two-year contract.
Indeed last summer, Leroy Sane joined Galatasaray from Bayern Munich having played for Manchester City between 2016 and 2020 and in the same window, Ilkay Gundogan departed Pep Guardiola’s side after over 350 appearances, eight seasons, and 14 trophies.
And although Bernardo Silva’s future remains undecided, from the public’s perspective, the Turkish club are claimed to be weighing up intent for the summer and have identified two midfield targets in Inter Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu and Manchester City captain Silva.
As reported by Fotomac, translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Galatasaray have ‘serious interest’ in the Portuguese midfielder beyond this season and intend to reunite Bernardo Silva with Sane and Gundogan.
Sane joined Guardiola’s side in the early days of his City reign for £37 million from Schalke, where he would make 135 appearances for the Premier League club, while Gundogan made over double that with a season-long spell at Barcelona between his two periods in England.
It is reported that the Super Lig winners are aiming to finalise a deal for Bernardo Silva as soon as possible and, in order to achieve that, they will encourage Gundogan to ‘hold a meeting’ with the Portuguese star, which they think is likely to convince him to join the club.
For City this season, Bernardo Silva has managed two goals and five assists from 35 matches but his importance far outweighs statistics. Silva did however provide the goal to kickstart a dramatic 1-2 comeback win against Liverpool to effectively keep them in the Premier League title race with Arsenal.
Silva has been a key player in the eyes of Pep Guardiola, who promoted him to first-team captain after Kevin De Bruyne left the club at the end of the last campaign, and has shown that he is amongst Manchester City’s elites with his influence and leadership.
In November, Pep Guardiola sung the praises further for Bernardo Silva and told the club website that “he doesn’t score too many goals or is not involved in all the assists. He has never done that.”
He added, “But he gives us and himself something that is not in the stats and a lot of things that are incredibly valuable to us. Absolutely one of the best players I have ever trained in my career.”
It is obvious Bernardo Silva has a huge decision to make regarding the next steps of his career, yet one thing is certain and it is that he will be hugely respected wherever he decides to go next beyond Manchester City.
