The Juventus Women's First Team claimed their first win of this Serie A Women season on Matchday 3, with a late Cristiana Girelli penalty sealing the points for Massimiliano Canzi's side.
A trip to take on Lazio was always likely to be a tricky one for Juventus Women, and so it proved. The first half was compilcated, and the attacking trident of Chiara Beccari, Barbara Bonansea and Cristiana Girelli tried without success to find the Bianconere’s first goal of this Serie A Women season.
The first big chance fell the way of the hosts. Martina Piemonte found a pocket of space in the box, and forced Danielle de Jong into a stunning save with an outstretched right foot.
With the scores level at 0-0 at the break, it looked as though it would take something special or a stroke of luck to break the deadlock either way.
The second half saw much more movement, and Canzi’s side threw themselves forward in search of the opener, with Beccari and then Estelle Cascarino trying their luck. The substitutions came, but a way through still proved hard to find.
A huge chance fell Piemonte’s way, only to see her hit the post and later realise the offside flag had been raised.
Bonansea served her timeless partner Girelli, who was denied by a fine Francesca Durante save, and then had a header blocked away seconds later.
But, in the 87th minute, Eleonora Goldoni handled in the box, and presented Girelli with a chance to score from the penalty spot. Expectedly, Cristiana stepped up as cold as ever and sent Durante the wrong way, celebrating the Bianconere’s first goal of this Serie A season, and their first win.
Now, the Bianconere split up for the October international window.
