The Juventus Women’s First Team secured their second UEFA Women's Champions League victory of the season with a comeback away at Atletico Madrid, winning 2-1.

Trailing 1-0 at the end of the first half, the Bianconere managed to equalise just before the break thanks to a superb free kick from Emma Stolen Godo, before scoring the winning goal early in the second half with a header from Barbara Bonansea.

A BIG WIN IN SPAIN

The match got off to a conflicting start for the Bianconere, with the referee awarding a penalty to Atletico Madrid after less than two minutes, which was then revoked after a VAR check.

Juventus tried to contain the Spanish side, with Chiara Beccari attempting a shot from outside the box in the 17th minute and almost creating a chance a few minutes later through the middle, but Eva Schatzer lost the ball at the crucial moment in the opponent's penalty area.

After half an hour, however, the best chances of the first half arrived. The first fell to Gabriela Garcia, as the Spanish player hit a shot with incredible power. Pauline Peyraud-Magnin failed to clear, forcing Emma Kullberg to make an important intervention.

In the 39th minute, Atletico Madrid took the lead through Amaiur Sarriegi. Following a long ball to Fiamma Benitez, she returned the favour to Sarriegi with a pass that she controlled with her chest and beat Peyraud-Magnin with a right-footed shot.

The Bianconere managed to respond before half-time, as Stolen Godo scored the equaliser with a superb strike into the far corner from a free kick on the edge of the box. It was a much-needed goal to boost the morale of Juventus, who went into the break with the score at 1-1.

In the second half, Coach Massimiliano Canzi's side started off on the right foot and managed to strike again on the counterattack. In the 54th minute, Estela Carbonell on the left wing received the ball after reaching the byline and crossed to the far post, where Bonansea arrived and headed home to make it 2-1 – the eleventh goal of her European career.

Atletico Madrid's response came from Rosa Otermin Abella, who struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box, forcing Peyraud-Magnin into a superb save after an hour of play. However, the Bianconere did not retreat and, at the end of a move by Bonansea, who beat two opponents but was unable to find a teammate in the box, Carbonell arrived on the rebound and forced Lola Gallardo into a save with her left foot.

With 15 minutes to go, there was a medical scare for Andrea Medina, who collapsed to the ground and, after several minutes, was carried off the pitch conscious on a stretcher.

In the final stages, the Bianconere managed to close ranks and withstand the pressure from the Spanish side, securing their second victory in three UEFA Women's Champions League matches.
