Birmingham City have agreed a deal with Belgian side Anderlecht to sign Argentine striker Luis Vazquez for around €3.5 million

Birmingham City have had a relatively quiet summer thus far, but things are about to heat up at St Andrews, with a new centre-forward heading to the Second City.

Birmingham have endured a low-key start to the 2026 summer window, having just signed one fresh face thus far.

Jhon Solis' loan move from Girona has become permanent for around £6 million, whilst James Beadle returns on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion for a second consecutive season, as Dael Fry remains the only new face around the place after completing a free transfer from Middlesbrough.

The Blues have spent over £50 million across the last two years under the ownership of Tom Wagner and Tom Brady's Knighthead Capital investment firm, and now, they are looking to spend a little bit more, having agreed a deal to reinforce their attack once more.

Birmingham have not been afraid to spend big on their attacking options of the past couple of years, and aim to continue that trend imminently after striking a fresh deal.

Each of Jay Stansfield, Carlos Vicente, Marvin Ducksch and August Priske all arrived for nearly a combined £30 million alone, with Priske having only joined last January from Swedish side Djurgarden for around £6 million to give head coach Chris Davies another option up top following the departure of Lyndon Dykes to Charlton Athletic.

Ducksch has been linked with a return to Germany, which, if that were to materialise, would leave the Blues short up top, as Davies has taken action to address this by agreeing a deal worth €3.5 million (£2.9 million) with Anderlecht for Argentine striker Luis Vazquez, according to Sky Sport's journalist Luca Bendoni via X.

Vazquez, 25, came through the youth system of Patronato in his native Argentina before making a name for himself with Boca Juniors, with whom he'd scored 16 times and grabbed seven assists in 99 games across all competitions prior to his move to Europe with Belgian side Anderlecht in 2023.

The six-foot-three-inch striker has gone on to make 116 appearances for Anderlecht across all competitions since, scoring 18 and assisting five, but would spend the second half of last season on loan in Spain with Getafe, with whom he netted three and assisted once in 17 La Liga games.

Now, it appears as though the 25-year-old forward is on his way to St Andrews to provide competition with Priske and, for the moment at least, Ducksch up top.

Having never been especially prolific during his career to date, Vazquez will be hoping to change that upon his imminent move to Birmingham, where he could take the Championship by storm.

Upon his move to Birmingham, Vazquez will arrive with the expectation of hitting the ground running almost immediately.

The Blues are a team that are looking up, and with highly ambitious owners, have made it no secret their intent to secure Premier League football as soon as possible.

Whilst they fell short last time around, finishing 10th in the Championship, their excellent form to close the season was enough to convince the Birmingham board to keep Davies on, as the former Leicester City assistant coach will be well aware of his need to fight in and amongst the top eight next year.

Vazquez's addition could play a pivotal role in his ambitions of remaining in charge towards the end of next season, as the Argentine, hopefully for Davies, can take Birmingham's attack to the next level.
