The evening kicked off at precisely 19:09 with a reception featuring drinks and finger food. In a relaxed atmosphere, the guests had the opportunity to chat with representatives of BVB, international business partners, and other fans and friends of the club.

A special highlight was the official welcome by Borussia Dortmund‘s management. BVB legend Patrick Owomoyela was the host for the evening and invited the chief executive officer, Hans-Joachim Watzke, as well as managing directors Lars Ricken and Carsten Cramer onto the stage.

“I am very happy to be here and, of course, excited to get started on the pitch. It was the right decision to spend a wonderful evening in front of this fantastic backdrop,” said Carsten Cramer. “Thanks to our office in New York, it already feels like home here. We are very proud to be in this city.”

For Hans-Joachim Watzke, the Club World Cup is an important competition, the creation of which was logical and which he is looking forward to. “In Europe, we have to accept that football takes place all over the world. The tournament can bring people together, it’s a great thing,“ said Watzke, adding: “Borussia Dortmund are a top name in European football. Over the past 10 years, we have always qualified automatically for the Champions League – a feat only six other clubs have achieved.”

Lars Ricken assessed the tournament from a sporting perspective at the end: “It is a unique experience for our players to participate in such a tournament. The boys are representatives of our club and our city – it’s a great responsibility.” When asked about the first opponent, he said: “Fluminense are one of the best teams from South America. Teams from this continent are traditionally always very motivated to face clubs like Borussia Dortmund. They are experienced and will give everything to beat us. If we leave everything on the pitch, we will win the game.”
