Leicester City have added a new asset to their burgeoning Under-21s with a youth player arriving from a major Premier League club. Bless Akolbire swapped Arsenal for the Foxes recently. And we have a lowdown on his player profile. Along with the apparent reason why he moved from north London to the east Midlands.
Confusion appeared to follow the sacking of two members of Leicester’s backroom staff on Monday. The pair, Ben Dawson and Danny Alcock, were described as surprise leavers. But for those of us in the Blue Army who know exactly how EPL owners and King Power work - this was no shock. A head, or heads, had to roll if Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy was to be given a vote of confidence. Which he duly received from the City ownership.
Although claims now suggest the ex-Manchester United player and interim manager decided on the respective dismissals himself. The Dutchman was asked by press why the coaching duo were sacked during his pre-match press conference ahead of the West Ham United clash. We will explain.
Finally in today's article involving recent LCFC news, we have a couple of updates before the Hammers fixture. In fact, both pieces of information affect the contest in some way or another. Firstly an unexpectedly referee change. Secondly, travel arrangements.
Thankfully a strike has been cancelled in the capital for Thursday:
"The Premier League meeting at the London Stadium was facing potential travel chaos... But it has been announced that the Elizabeth line strikes have been cancelled after a deal was reached raising drivers’ salary to £75,000."Hammers News
Meanwhile Anthony Taylor has replaced Stuart Attwell in the refereeing department.
Akolbire has confirmed that he's now a Fox. He's an 18-year-old midfielder who can anchor or attack. Interestingly, he holds Ghanaian and British citizenship.
Previously, the London-born athlete was with Colchester City youth teams. It is said that first team opportunities are why Akolbire left.
"I communicated I would like to bring my own people in. It wasn’t possible from the beginning, but during the course of the past weeks, Brian Barry-Murphy and Andy King came in... It didn’t have anything to do with the results, it was separate from that"RvN
