Gent have announced that goalkeeper Davy Roef will be out for a while with a broken hand. The Belgian suffered the injury during the sides 0-0 draw with Pro League leaders Genk at the weekend. Gent were active during the January window and already have a replacement ready in Tom Vandenberghe. The former Kortrijk man left the relegation threatened side to join the Buffaloes as they look to finish in the top six.

Despite Gent’s struggles for consistency this season Roef has been in excellent form. He has arguably been one of the best performing goalkeepers in the Pro League this season. He as kept 11 clean sheets in 26 matches and has been busy in most. The 31-year-old has been with Gent since 2020, having made 130 appearances and been the star in their cup win of 2022 when he won them the penalty shoot out against Anderlecht.

In Vandenberghe, Gent have an experienced replacement who should be able to help them secure a top six finish and be competitive until Roef is able to recover.
