Chelsea owners BlueCo have agreed a €20 million deal to sign Brighton & Hove Albion ace Julio Enciso this summer (h/t journalist David Ornstein).
Enciso will join BlueCo-owned Strasbourg to develop before moving to Stamford Bridge next season..
The Blues allowed Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic to spend last season in France, and it worked out for all parties.
Chelsea have sent Kendry Paez, Mike Penders, and Mamadou Sarr to Strasbourg this summer. They have also sold Ishe Samuels-Smith and Mathis Amougou to them.
Enciso is currently sidelined and won’t be back until around October after undergoing surgery, when he will join forces with the Chelsea contingent in France.
The 21-year-old bagged two goals in 25 Premier League appearances last term.
The Paraguayan has been capped 27 times by his country, but has struggled for consistent game time at club level.
Signing Enciso looks to be another case of Chelsea stockpiling players rather than thoughtful squad planning.
Cole Palmer is already in the squad, while teenage prodigies Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian can become superstars.
Chelsea are still pushing to sign Xavi Simons, another highly rated attacking midfielder.
Enciso is promising, but with injury setbacks and no clear route into the side, this feels like a luxury addition that adds little value.
Chelsea are hoarding talent without a clear vision of how all these playmakers can realistically coexist.
