It is actually BlueCo who are eyeing a former Manchester City midfielder rather than Chelsea, at least not yet anyway.
Strasbourg is a known route to Chelsea for many players, being their sister club and under the same ownership group.
So when a player is linked to Strasbourg, you can often know that he is a potential future candidate to become a Chelsea player as well.
And it looks like Chelsea’s recent links to James McAtee, would be more a signing for Strasbourg for now at least. I’d suspect Chelsea would view the former Manchester City man as a potential player for them in the near future, should he go and prove himself at their sister club.

The BBC report that BlueCo’s interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder James McAtee is for a loan move to Strasbourg rather than joining Chelsea.
This would make a bit more sense for now of course. But we know that McAtee is liked by Joe Shields and worked with him at City, and Shields is a Chelsea director. So I’d assume this is still being looked at as a possible future Chelsea move down the line at some point.
Reece James spoke to the club’s website after the game about how he and his teammates had failed to adapt to the changes made by Aston Villa midway through the game.
James also noted how well his team had done for large periods of the game – sadly games are not 65 minutes, and if you don’t score the goals your performance warrants you’ll always get punished.
