Boca Juniors have been handed a boost ahead of a pivotal Copa Libertadores Group D tie, as Cruzeiro will be without winger Keny Arroyo at La Bombonera. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the 20-year-old was sent off against Universidad Católica in Chile, ruling him out in Buenos Aires.

The fourth-round meeting finished 0-0, but Arroyo’s early second-half stamp on Fernando Zuqui brought a straight red. He protested for VAR, yet the referee upheld the dismissal.

It was the Ecuadorian’s second consecutive sending-off, after the same sanction against Atlético Mineiro. CONMEBOL’s disciplinary unit will determine whether his ban is for one or two matches, though he will definitely miss the game at the Estadio Alberto J. Armando.

Boca face a suspension of their own, with Santiago Ascacibar unavailable after his red card away to Barcelona SC in Ecuador. A decision is also pending on whether his punishment extends beyond one match.

The Group D fixture is scheduled for Tuesday 19 May at 21:30 in Argentina, at La Bombonera. With the table tight, Universidad Católica and Cruzeiro sit on seven points, with Boca one back on six. A home win would take Boca above Cruzeiro and leave qualification in their own hands for the final round.
