Giuseppe Savoldi, one of the most prolific goal scorers in our history, passed away today in Bergamo at the age of 79. A true legend for a generation of Bologna fans, he was the iconic striker of the 1970s, exceptional in aerial play and athletic finishes, clinical with his left foot, and almost always finishing with double-digit tallies. The first of our “Beppegol” players, Savoldi played for Bologna from 1968 to 1975 and again in 1979-80 after spells with Napoli. As a Rossoblù, he scored 140 goals, making him Bologna’s all-time top scorer, and the fourth all-time top scorer in the Coppa Italia with 27 goals over 317 appearances. As Serie A’s top scorer in spring 1973, he helped secure our first two Coppa Italia victories (1970 and 1974), as well as the 1970 Anglo-Italian League Cup, scoring a decisive goal in Manchester in the second leg against Manchester City.

Everyone at Bologna FC 1909 cherishes Beppe’s memory with love and extends their deepest condolences to his family.
