FLW's Bolton Wanderers fan pundit has given his reaction to a head coach Steven Schumacher's concerning latest transfer update.

Bolton Wanderers are preparing for life in the Championship following their promotion from League One.

It was a frustrating season for Bolton as they finished fifth in League One, significantly behind automatically promoted pair Lincoln City and Cardiff City, but after beating Bradford City in their play-off semi-final, they sealed their return to the Championship with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Stockport County in the final at Wembley.

As Bolton gear up for their first season in the Championship in seven years, it has been a busy start to the summer at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The Trotters have brought in six new signings so far this summer in Luca Stephenson, Gaizka Larrazabal, Ben Davies, Akin Famewo, David Watson and Kyliane Dong, but a host of departures mean that the squad is still light in certain areas.

Jordi Osei-Tutu, George Johnson, Kyle Dempsey and Carlos Mendes Gomes were among the high-profile names released at the end of their contracts, while influential loanees Amario Cozier-Duberry, Ibrahim Cissoko, Johnny Kenny and Mason Burstow have returned to their parent clubs.

With just over two weeks to go until the start of the new season, there is plenty of work for Wanderers to do in the transfer market, but speaking after his side's 1-1 pre-season draw at Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night, head coach Steven Schumacher gave a blunt response when asked if any deals were imminent, saying: "No, nothing. No news".

When asked for his thoughts on Schumacher's comments, FLW's Bolton Wanderers fan pundit Liam O'Meara insisted there is no need for panic with a month still remaining in the transfer window, but he admitted the Trotters do need to strengthen further, particularly in the attacking areas.

"I wouldn't read too much into it at all, to be completely honest," Liam told FLW.

"I think Bolton have been relatively active in the window.

"Where we are lacking is in the forward areas of the pitch.

"I'd imagine that's where our budget doesn't necessarily stretch to in terms of making investments in forwards, which invariably cost more money.

"I do believe that's potentially where we will look to use the loan market like we have in the past with the likes of Amario Cozier-Duberry.

"He may be frustrated because a lot of the forwards that we're going to be looking at on loan are likely to be from top end Championship and Premier League clubs whose pre-seasons are going to be interrupted by a long World Cup.

"It may be that there hasn't been much movement yet because these clubs are only just getting their players back in.

"I'm not really too concerned.

"He's supposed to be frustrated, he's a manager trying to build a team in the Championship.

"It's going to be tough, but I'm not really that worried."

Bolton made excellent use of the loan market last season, with the likes of Cozier-Duberry, Cissoko, Kenny and Burstow contributing significantly to their promotion, but while it helped them achieve short-term success, it has presented them with a big problem this summer.

With many of last season's forward line no longer at the club, it could be argued that the Trotters' squad is weaker now than it was in League One, which is a big concern with the new Championship season fast approaching.
