Ole Book on Konstantinos Karetsas’s first team training session:“He’s been well received by the team. He cracked a few jokes, showed off some skills, and moved around a bit. I don’t think we can draw any further conclusions from that just yet.”
… on expectations for Kosta Karetsas:“Above all, we all know that we need to give him a little time and patience. He has great potential; we didn’t invest in him for nothing, and we’ve gone to great lengths to bring him here. We’re looking forward to everything with him, but we’re also aware of the responsibility that comes with signing a good, talented player. He’s pure creativity—a technically very skilled player. He’s very active, energetic, with good acceleration and excellent technique. But above all, we also know that he still has a bit of a way to go.”
... on the status of squad planning:“We’re naturally very happy that we’ve been able to keep so many pillars of last season’s successful squad together. That’s not something to be taken for granted. Not many clubs in Germany manage to pull that off. Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi, Niklas Süle, and Salih Özcan certainly played their part in those successful years—we know that. But it’s not the major upheaval that many may have feared at various times. We’ve retained a great many key players and top performers, and we’re very happy about that for now. In addition, we’ve brought in some exciting new signings who bring exactly the qualities we wanted for those positions.
… on the status of Nico Schlotterbeck and Emre Can:“It’s very difficult even for highly experienced medical professionals and our rehab coaches to predict the future. I see both of them fully motivated every day during their rehab and training. They’re also fully committed to the team and the team spirit as key players. No one—and certainly not me—can say exactly how much longer it will take.”
