Barcelona are all set to lock horns with Athletic Club in the first semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup tomorrow in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Blaugrana will be aiming to take a step closer to winning the first trophy of the Hansi Flick era by ousting Ernesto Valverde’s men.
And, Barcelona’s chances have received a major boost as one of the Basque club’s main players is now a doubt for tomorrow’s game.
Indeed, Athletic Club have issued a statement confirming that star winger Nico Williams is dealing with a bruise on his left ankle as a result of which he did not train with the rest of his teammates today.
“Nico Williams has suffered a bruise to his left ankle and is pending evolution,” the statement read.
“The player has not trained with the rest of the teammates as a precaution.”
While the issue does not seem to be serious, Nico’s absence from training does cast question marks over his availability for tomorrow’s semi-final against Barcelona.
Even if the 22-year-old makes himself available, there is a possibility that he will not be at his 100%, which will come as a boost for Barça.
After all, the Spaniard is a key player for Athletic Club even though he has not been as good as he was last season.
So far in 2024/25, the winger has produced a tally of two goals and five assists from 24 matches in all competitions.
It remains to be seen if the UEFA Euro 2024 winner, who remains a transfer target for Barcelona, recovers in time to face them tomorrow in Saudi Arabia.
