Borislav Mihaylov, former Bulgaria goalkeeper and captain, died on Tuesday aged 63. According to L'Équipe, he had been in a medically induced coma since November 2025 after a stroke.
He led the national team that finished fourth at the 1994 World Cup and won 102 caps. He was part of the side that eliminated France in the 1993 play-off.
At club level, he spent two years with Mulhouse, and the French side paid tribute on Facebook.
Mihaylov served as president of the Bulgarian football federation from 2005 to 2019. He resigned in the wake of racist incidents during a Euro 2020 qualifier against England that ended 0-0.
He returned to the role in 2021 and remained in post until November 2023. A close ally of Gianni Infantino, he was a member of UEFA’s executive committee from 2011 to 2019.
