Sky Germany reports that Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is still unsure about extending his contract at the club.
At the club’s winter training camp in Marbella, sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed that extension talks beyond 2027 have resumed following a break over the holiday period.
However, it is reported that Schlotterbeck is still hesitant about extending his contract at the Westfalenstadion. His recent quotes about wanting to win a Bundesliga title and the current state of Dortmund on the pitch can suggest why the 26-year-old is doubting signing a new deal.
Schlotterbeck is expected to make a decision on an extension by the end of this month.
Obviously, if Schlotterbeck decides not to extend his contract at the club, then it will be up to BVB to decide whether they sell the defender for a big fee or let him leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2027.
Plenty of clubs are circling the situation and ready to act when Schlottebeck makes his decision. Bayern Munich are consistently linked, and the comments about winning a Bundesliga title will work in their favour, while clubs from abroad have also been linked.
Overall, it will be a bad look for Dortmund if they do end up losing their star defender, as they cannot offer competitiveness on the pitch.
