Borussia Dortmund II lifted the Premier League International Cup trophy after a 1-0 win over Real Madrid Castilla in the final. Bayern Munich previously won this competition back in the 2018/19 season.

Dortmund scored the winning goal inside the first ten minutes with a well-worked move started by the goalkeeper, Aaron Held. Taycan Etcibasi scored the goal that put him ahead of RB Leipzig’s Yohan Ngatcheu and Man Utd’s James Scanlon in the scoring chart with a superb finish after Enzo Duarte’s first-time assist.

Real Madrid, who had few players from the squad that won the UEFA Youth League last month, were dominant throughout the game. However, they couldn’t find the finishing touch to break down Daniel Rios’ ultra-defensive playing style. There was a scuffle between the two sets of players as tensions grew in injury-time.

Dortmund became the second German team to win the annual competition hosted by the Premier League. A German player also finished top-scorer for the second season running in this growing U23 competition. Ensar Aksakal, who is now playing for the struggling Ulm side, won the accolades with six goals for Hertha last season.

Etcibasi finished top with five goals in six games this term. The 18-year-old striker has found the net in every game apart from the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the group stage. He joined Dortmund’s youth setup from fierce rivals Schalke in 2024.
