Manchester City’s hopes of bringing Felix Nmecha back to the Etihad Stadium have hit a major roadblock, with Borussia Dortmund poised to tie the midfielder down to a long-term contract, according to Sky Germany.
With Bernardo Silva set to depart this summer, Pep Guardiola’s side had been linked with a move for Nmecha, who spent his formative years at the City academy before leaving in 2021.
However, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl is moving to extinguish any hope of a summer exit for the midfielder, whose current deal at Signal Iduna Park runs until 2028.
Nmecha has enjoyed a stellar 2025/26 campaign under Niko Kovac, registering five goals and three assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
His evolution into an all-action, box-to-box midfielder has not only earned him a recall to the German national team but also made him a key pillar of the Dortmund project.
To reflect his elevated status, BVB are set to offer Nmecha a significant pay rise from his current €5m-a-year deal, which would make him one of the club’s highest earners.
While Dortmund have a history of selling stars for the right price, they are showing no willingness to part ways with one of their standout performers this season.
For City, this development represents a bitter pill to swallow. Having allowed Nmecha to leave for free in 2021, the English giants now face paying a hefty premium—or missing out entirely—on a player who has gone from strength to strength since departing the blue half of Manchester.
