Niko Kovac’s men sit in second position in the table with 58 points from 26 matches, nine points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Hamburg, meanwhile, sit 10th in the standings, nine points above the relegation zone with just one win in their last five matches.

Borussia Dortmund will be without a few players heading into this fixture, with injuries continuing to impact squad selection.

Club captain Emre Can has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury, a significant blow given his leadership and defensive presence.

Filippo Mane is also sidelined with a thigh injury. Neither Serhou Guirassy or Julian Brandt started in the last match and were only used as substitutes in the final minutes.

Both of them are expected to come back into the lineup with Karim Adeyemi dropping to the bench to make way for them.

Daniel Svensson suffered an ankle sprain against Augsburg and was subbed off, making him a doubt for this match. Yan Couto is therefore expected to come back into the squad and take his place.

Hamburg team news

Hamburger SV also face multiple injury concerns ahead of their trip to Dortmund. Yussuf Poulsen has been ruled out for several weeks due to a thigh injury.

In addition, Bakery Jatta remains sidelined with a muscle injury, while players such as Albert Gronbaek, Alexander Rossing-Lelesiit and Nicolas Capaldo are also unavailable due to fitness issues.

Ransford Konigsdorffer, the attacker, will once again be pivotal for Hamburger if they want to challenge Borussia. He also scored in the reverse fixture with Dortmund earlier in the season.

Hamburger SV are currently sitting in 11th position with 30 points in the league. They have failed to win more than one match in their last five in all competitions. They are, though, unbeaten in their last two games with their most recent outing being a 1-1 draw with FC Koln.
