The Black and Yellows are making strong strides at just the right time to secure the all-important Champions League Qualification. The side that once found itself in 13th place has now risen to 5th with only a point separating Niko Kovac’s team from overtaking Freiburg, who are in 4th. With two games to go, BVB have the chance to finish as high as third place, with Eintracht Frankfurt four points away.
Dortmund have won six of their last seven domestic games and remain unbeaten in that run, with only a draw away at record Champions Bayern Munich the only stalemate. During this run, BVB has scored 4 goals against Freiburg and Wolfsburg while netting 3 each vs Mainz, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Hoffenheim.
One of the main protagonists in Dortmund’s Renaissance has been the man at the front, Serhou Guirassy. The Guinea international grabbed a brace, his 18th and 19th goals of the league season, over the weekend against Wolfsburg to help BVB propel to fourth spot, albeit temporarily. But Karim Adeyemi, who came off the bench to score two wonderful goals, grabbed the headlines. The German attacker once again reminded everyone what he is capable of doing when he is on form, marking a distinct contrast on the picth with the man he replaced: Jamie Gittens.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who has 30 appearances, has grabbed 8. In the Champions League, Adeyemi has 5 goals in 10 games. Meanwhile, Adeyemi has made 23 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring 6 goals and assisting 5. Based on their performances against Wolfsburg, one might be confused to see such similar statistics.
Even though Adeyemi has often been criticized for his lack of effort, as well as his inability to track back and defend, his supreme dribbling ability and finishing make the 23-year-old a standout player.
In recent days, there have been talks about Gittens leaving Dortmund in the summer and his declining form. Despite performing well last season and making a strong start this season, he hasn’t been able to replicate that in 2025. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Jamie Gittens wants to leave.
He has been said to have already announced his departure in the BVB dressing room, according to RN. The report further indicates that Gittens has been linked with a move to Chelsea while Arsenal also remain interested.
Adeyemi’s recent form can also entice the BVB hierarchy rely on him and keep the German international. With the futures of Gio Reyna and Julien Duranville also uncertain BVB may be forced to further strengthen the positions.
