Botafogo are negotiating the signing of Grêmio midfielder Edenilson, who is in talks to terminate his contract in the coming days. According to Globo.com, the 36-year-old has given a positive signal to the Rio club.
Edenilson is discussing a release with Grêmio and is also on the radar of other Brazilian sides. Botafogo are moving amid an injury-hit midfield.
He joined Grêmio in 2024 and scored against Botafogo in the Brasileirão, netting the final goal in a 5-3 win in round two. He was withdrawn in the first half against São Paulo on Wednesday.
The midfielder came through at Caxias in Rio Grande do Sul, then played for Corinthians, Udinese, Genoa, Internacional, Atlético-MG and Grêmio. He won two Brazil caps in 2021 under Tite.
With few midfield options available, Botafogo are also pursuing Medina of Estudiantes and Zé Lucas of Sport. The team face Flamengo on Sunday at 17:30 in the Campeonato Carioca quarter-finals.
