Alfie Gilchrist has attracted interest from Premier League clubs who want to sign him permanently according to Fabrizio Romano.
Gilchrist is a product of Chelsea’s Cobham academy and made his first team debut under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
The 21-year-old made 17 appearances for the Blues last season, with 11 of those coming in the Premier League, with his contract at Stamford Bridge set to expire in 2026.
Chelsea took the decision to send Gilchrist, who can play at both right back and centre back on loan to Sheffield United in the Championship.
The youngster is doing well for the Blades and has made 23 appearances in all competition for the club, who sit second in the table behind leaders Leeds on goal difference.
Gilchrist has earned rave reviews in the local media with his performances, and given the competition for places at Chelsea, sending him on loan was absolutely the right thing to do.

John Terry is a big fan of Gilchrist and it’s clear he’s got lots of ability, although it doesn’t look likely he will make the breakthrough at Chelsea and become a regular fixture in the first team.
Gilchrist’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed and Romano has provided an update on the defender’s future ahead of the January transfer window.
He took to X.com and said:
“Alfie Gilchrist has attracted interest from Premier League clubs for permanent transfer in January. However, both Chelsea and player side see staying at Sheffield United until June as best option.”

What Chelsea value Gilchrist at is unclear, but if they were to receive an offer it would be interesting to see what they would do.
It makes sense for Gilchrist to remain on loan with the Blades given he’s performing well and featuring on a regular basis, and if he has a strong second half of the campaign his value will likely increase and he will attract more suitors.
