West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has voiced his frustration following their crushing 5-1 loss to Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Hammers made a bright start and took an early lead in the sixth minute through a fine strike from Lucas Paqueta.
However, Chelsea responded quickly when Joao Pedro levelled the score in the 15th minute.
Enzo Maresca’s side went ahead in the 23rd minute with a goal from Pedro Neto. The pressure continued as Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah all found the net to seal an emphatic victory.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Bowen admitted that the team was extremely disappointed. The frustration was even greater because they had already suffered a 3-0 defeat against newly promoted Sunderland in the opening week.
“Fuming. Disappointing. All the emotions that come on the back of conceding eight goals in two games and not picking up a point yet.”
The forward criticised the manner in which the goals were conceded, insisting his side made it far too easy for Chelsea.
“We got ourselves into a really good position at 1-0 and I thought the goals were really cheap on our behalf. We did not really make them work for those three from set-pieces, which we have always prided ourselves on over the years, and then a couple more finishes inside the six yard box.”
Bowen further added, “We gifted the goals away. You do that against any opposition… we learnt that at Sunderland last week and we have learnt it again today.”
Potter’s team remains without a single point since the beginning of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign
The East London club now turn their attention to their next Premier League clash, where they will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, aiming to end their poor start to the season.
