Arne Slot’s Reds Continue Winning Ways Against Leicester

Never mind all the talk of we’d have like to have won this one more comfortably. Three points and no injuries was the brief and the reds can tick this me off. It was probably another one where we made it hard for ourselves at the start, but in truth, Liverpool were more than worthy of their victory over Leicester who hardly had a shot after their goal.

There will have been a few things Arne Slot wont have liked, but overall he’ll be happy whilst on their case at the same time. We look at the lessons learned from a home Boxing Day victory.

Gakpo Representing The Left

After Luis Diaz had drawn headlines with his performance and double against Spurs, it was Cody Gakpo’s turn to serve up a reminder of what he can contribute down that left hand side. The finish for the equaliser off the stroke of half-time was exquisite and whilst teams know what the Dutchman will do, stopping it is a different thing.

The former PSV winger now has big goals in recent games against Brighton, Fulham and Leicester, Leverkusen, Madrid and City. This contest between him and Diaz is working wonders and when both play it looks great too. He came alive second half and as long as him or Diaz shines, we’re golden. Good of Salah to give his pal an assist too.

Beautiful Goals Galore

Not to be outdone by Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones was maybe the best of the bunch as a team goal, but it was important for the king to remind everyone just who is the ruler of Anfield. There didn’t even look like there was a gap when the Egyptian semi-god bent it into the side netting to score his 19th goal of the season before the end of the year.

He becomes the eighth player to score 100 home goals in the Premier League and has now been involved in more premier league goals for Liverpool than Thierry Henry was for Arsenal. So much to like about all three of these strikes.

Midfield Mounting Up

You’ll separate Gravenberch because the amount he helps stop is a different level compared to the others. Yet, the midfield has really stepped in with goal contributions this season. Following his header against Spurs, Alexis Mac Allister came away with two assists in this one on the back of a real all-action performance.

Curtis Jones also loves putting us 2-1 up at Anfield against teams in dark blue and if they’re all chipping in then it’s a real asset for Slot. Szoboszlai notched a goal and assist against spurs too and Elliott on the Carabao. If you look at the midfield as a collective, it’s all stacking up, including a goal and two assists in this one.
