Brais Méndez has been handed a two-match suspension after his red card in the San Mamés derby against Athletic, following a clash with Paredes for violent conduct off the ball. The federation confirmed the decision in its resolution.
The committee found the incident occurred with no possibility of playing the ball and while play was not active, adding that contact to the opponent’s face was clear.
Real Sociedad sought leniency, arguing there was immediate provocation before the incident and claiming there was no pain, aggression or excessive force. The club asked for only the minimum sanction available under Article 130.2 of the Disciplinary Code.
The panel rejected the plea after reviewing the footage, noting the images clearly show contact to the rival player’s face, which the club acknowledged in its submission.
The ban rules the midfielder out of Real Sociedad’s next two fixtures, against Elche and Real Madrid.
