Brais Méndez’s reduced role hints at summer movement at Real Sociedad | OneFootball

Brais Méndez has slipped from mainstay to squad option at Real Sociedad this season, raising the prospect of movement in the summer window.

According to AS, the Galician midfielder joined from Celta Vigo in 2022 for €14 million and, after featuring in 16 of 17 league rounds under Sergio Francisco, has lately been used mainly late on.

Under Pellegrino Matarazzo, he has played 679 minutes across 13 appearances in the American coach’s 21 matches. He averaged more than 3,200 minutes in each of his first two seasons at Anoeta, both with an extra competition, and scored three Champions League goals.

This campaign he has 1,762 minutes in 30 outings across Liga and Copa, with six goals.

His minutes have dipped after a summer when a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia arrived late in the window but did not come off. Facing criticism on social media, he said in October that he would not allow anyone to question his commitment, which he argued had been clear throughout his time at the club.

Despite a contract to 2028, his future is one of the uncertainties of the next market. At 29, a departure cannot be ruled out if an offer convinces all parties in the summer.
