The Burkina Faso football federation announced on Wednesday that it had sacked head coach Brama Traoré and his staff, citing results far below the targets and widespread disappointment among supporters and officials.

The decision followed a last-16 elimination at the Africa Cup of Nations, where Burkina Faso lost 3-0 to Côte d'Ivoire on 6 January after finishing second in Group E.

Traoré was judged to have fallen short of the minimum objective, which was to reach at least the semi-finals at this tournament.

Burkina Faso’s best AFCON finish remains the 2013 final. They were also semi-finalists in 2017 and 2021.

The federation also thanked the former coach and his staff for their commitment and service to the national team.
