Santos were held by Guarani in the Campeonato Paulista on Sunday, surrendering a lead in the third round. According to Diario Do Peixe, Gabriel Brazão, Vinícius Lira and Barreal were the bright spots in an otherwise flat display.
Brazão nearly spilled a long-range effort from Isaque in the first half, and Barreal squandered two big chances before the break. Lira, making his first start of the season, later set up Barreal to open the scoring.
Right after the restart, Brazão produced a superb stop, then saved a penalty awarded for Zé Ivaldo’s rash challenge. Willian Arão improved after the interval and began the move for the goal. Rollheiser, short of options ahead of him, still created the clearest openings and dictated Santos’s tempo.
Thaciano found the net but it was ruled out as Lautaro Díaz impeded the Guarani goalkeeper, and the forward then missed another glaring opportunity. With 15 minutes left, Escobar came on and was at fault for the Guarani goal.
Mayke and Adonis Frias struggled, and Zé Rafael offered little end product. Gabriel Menino mixed errors with ambition from range, João Schmidt’s late cameo made no impact, and Robinho Jr was off the pace. Head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda fielded a slow, defensive side against a lowly opponent, and his late changes hindered Santos in the final third of the game.
