Real Madrid confirmed earlier today that forward Rodrygo Goes had suffered an ACL rupture along with damage to the meniscus in his right knee.
The serious injury, which will require surgery, is set to rule the 25-year-old Brazilian international out for close to a year.
It meant that Rodrygo’s season is now over and he will also miss the summer’s FIFA World Cup in North America. There is even a possibility that he might not play again in 2026.
Now, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has expressed its solidarity with Rodrygo after confirmation of the ligament rupture that rules him out of the World Cup.
The former Santos FC wonderkid was expected to be in the final squad that Carlo Ancelotti plans to take to the tournament, but will now be unable to participate.
“The CBF stands in solidarity with the athlete Rodrygo Goes, forward of Real Madrid and of the Brazilian National Team, who suffered a serious injury during the match against Getafe, in the Spanish league,” the statement reads.
“Rodrygo suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral meniscus of his right knee.
“The Medical Department of the Seleçao has been in contact in recent hours with the doctors of the Spanish team and has made itself available to assist in whatever is necessary.
“The CBF wishes the athlete a speedy recovery and that he returns to the pitch as soon as possible,” it concluded.
It is a bitter blow for Rodrygo, who has endured a difficult past year, with poor form and fitness issues hampering him at every step.
