Matheus Cunha is relishing the challenge of getting Manchester United back to where they belong – at the ‘very top.’
The former Wolves attacker has enjoyed a good start to life at Old Trafford and alongside fellow summer signing Bryan Mbeumo, the duo have performed well so far.
Their arrivals gave under-pressure manager Ruben Amorim a huge lift and now the Portuguese coach is beginning to click United into life, with the 13-times Premier League champions unbeaten in their last five matches.
United are back in the top eight and will have their sights set on a European finish. Cunha wants to build on the momentum shift and keep the club moving in a positive direction.
“Being at Manchester United right now is something that I’m so grateful for,” he explained.
“It’s very impactful for me to perform like we are doing, to show everyone that United is a club that needs to be at the top.
“We’ve done everything to put United there and without doubt, to come here [to the Brazilian national team], we need to show everyone it’s because we did a good job at our clubs.
“I hope we continue like this. We continue to push United forward, to help them, to help the fans, to help the club [become] what everyone wants them to be.”
He continued: “Right now to be with the national team is the pride of everyone. To come here and work with [Carlo] Ancelotti is something that I’m also so grateful for. One of the biggest coaches in the world.
“He’s already helped us to develop our level and you feel very proud to do everything with him. To be able to do the good work with him.
“Of course to be in this kind of position, to be one of the important players here, is something you need to show every single day – why you have the capacity to be here. To be able to show everyone what you need to do.
“I want to continue like this. Happy, in good form, go forward and show everyone the good things.”
