Amanda Gutierres was the star as Brazil took a 3-1 victory over Australia in a friendly at the Suncorp Stadium.
The Canarinhas were off the blocks quickly, as a long raking pass was flicked on by Marília Furiel, allowing Amanda Gutierres to get between the centre-backs, taking the ball around goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold and delivering the simple finish.
Gutierres – in her first ever start for the national team – soon had her second. The attack began when Duda Sampaio hit a sublime long ball with the outside of her boot down the channel, allowing Aline Gomes to deliver the pull-back in the box for Gutierres to smash a first time shot beyond Arnold.
The Matildas were not giving up though, and just before half-time, they pulled one back. Some determined work on the right-hand side from Ellie Carpenter allowed her to put a cross into the box, as Emily van Egmond confused the defence with a dummy, That left Arsenal's Caitlin Foord to spin away from her marker and deliver a sublime finish, to the delight of the home crowd.
Into the second half and Brazil restored their two-goal advantage when defender Alanna Kennedy was caught in possession, and when the ball was stolen from her, the lively substitute Giovana Queiroz strode forward, taking the ball beyond the defender and then finishing beyond goalkeeper Arnold.
As the final minutes approached, Vitória Calhau received her second yellow card for delaying the restart on a free-kick.
In the end, Foord's goal was the only shot on target throughout the whole game for the home side.
The two sides face off again on Sunday, this time at the CBus Super Stadium in Queensland.
