Brentford dedicates Manchester City fixture to Heart of West London | OneFootball

Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Manchester City is dedicated to the Heart of West London campaign - Brentford's mission to improve heart health in the community.

Fans at Gtech Community Stadium and millions watching around the world are encouraged to take two minutes to learn simple but potentially life-saving CPR skills.

80 per cent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home. Early CPR can double the chances of survival. Knowing how to administer CPR until help arrives could save the life of someone you live with.

Since 2022, the Heart of West London (HoWL) partnership has used the power of sport and our collective voice to change the game for cardiac health.

Through the collective effort of Brentford’s campaign partners, fans and community, we’re funding ground-breaking research into sudden cardiac death, delivering free screenings for young people to identify cardiac health problems, and increasing access to CPR training and defibrillators across west London.

By getting involved in our matchday activity or by making a donation, you’re joining us in our mission to build a community of healthy hearts. On Sunday, we’ll celebrate three years’ progress, the legacy of Robert Rowan, and highlight what more we can achieve with your help.

Here’s how you can get involved with HoWL on the day:

CPR training - learn how to save a life

Take two minutes to learn CPR. It may be the most important two minutes of your life.

October is Restart a Heart Month, highlighting the importance of CPR training and defibrillator access.

Live CPR demonstrations will be available for fans at the Gtech in our premium lounges.

There will be a live demonstration pitchside at half-time. Follow the instructions on the big screens to take part in the demonstration and see if you can keep up with the beats per minute to deliver CPR correctly. If you can keep the pace, you could save a life.

You can also scan the CPQR code to open Resuscitation Council UK’s video tutorial on your phone. This code will be on the big screens and available around the ground on matchday, or you can scan it below.

Pre-match activity - HoWL warm-up shirts and an interview with Andy Scott

Before kick-off this Sunday, Brentford players will wear HoWL warm-up shirts highlighting the shocking stat that 80 per cent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home. The warm-up shirts will feature the CPQR code to encourage fans to learn CPR.

Former Bees forward Andy Scott will also be pitchside speaking to Stu Wakeford about the campaign and why it's important for everyone to have a cardiac screening.

Join our fan display in the west stand

Fans in the West Stand are encouraged to take part in our fan display in memory of Brentford’s former technical director, Robert Rowan.

Head to your seat in time for the players’ walkout to take part.

Donate by joining the auction for your favourite player’s signed shirt

Brentford fans can bid for their favourite player’s signed match shirt, which, for this fixture only, will include the CPQR code on the front. All auctions are hosted by club partner MatchWornShirt and any money that the club receives from auctions goes directly to HoWL.

Remembering Robert Rowan

Cardiac health is a cause that is close to our hearts after Brentford’s former technical director, Robert Rowan, sadly passed away in 2018 due to a sudden, fatal cardiomyopathy episode at the age of 28.

In Robert’s memory, Brentford FC and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust partnered with leading voices in heart health, Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young, Resuscitation Council UK, London Ambulance Charity, and A-K-A Day to increase awareness of cardiac health issues.
