According to L'Équipe, Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangaré, 24, is in advanced talks with Brentford. A transfer could be worth around €48m.
Lens chiefs have been negotiating discreetly for several weeks, seeking a very substantial fee for the former Rapid Vienna player, signed last summer for €5m plus €3m in add-ons. As of Tuesday night, nothing was finalised. Brentford finished ninth in the Premier League last season.
If completed, the move would set a club-record sale for Lens, eclipsing Lois Openda’s €40m switch to Leipzig in 2023.
Crystal Palace, the club of former Lens coach Pierre Sage, have also positioned themselves and could outbid.
To avoid injury, Sangaré sat out Lens’s two friendlies in Como on Tuesday, a 3-0 win over Palace followed by a meeting with Famalicao at 22:00.
