Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa were in fine form as Brentford beat Brighton 4-2 in the Premier League on Saturday.
A familiar combination did the damage as the Bees kept alive their hopes of European qualification. Mbeumo scored twice at the Gtech Community Stadium, before turning provider for Wissa to net Brentford’s third of the game.
The former’s double extended his return to the season to 18 league goals, with only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland having netted more. Wissa’s goal was his 16th of the Premier League campaign. Brentford are the only team in the division to have two scorers on 15+ league goals.
Mbeumo and Wissa have also become just the second pair of African teammates to each score 15+ goals in a Premier League campaign. Brentford’s deadly double-act have matched the achievement of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who each reached that landmark in 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2021/22.
That latter season saw Salah and Mane share the Premier League’s Golden Boot with 22 goals each, alongside Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
