Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot is set to sign for Aston Villa after they pipped Leeds United and other suitors to his services, according to French outlet L’Equipe.
The Villa Park club will send a plane to Brest airport this evening to pick up the 34-year-old Dutchman and fly him to the United Kingdom, where he will sign his deal.
Villa could be without Manchester United-linked Emiliano Martinez, and Bizot has been identified as a potential replacement or cover as manager Unai Emery prepares for the 2025-26 campaign.
The Villans want a new No. 2 after Robin Olsen left at the end of his contract in the summer and has since joined Malmo, and the Brest goalie brings much-needed quality and experience to the table.
He will also be joining the Midlands club for a low-cost fee, and it is a position Villa are keen to sort out as soon as possible.
The former AZ Alkmaar goalie featured in 41 games across all competitions for Brest last season, with nine of them coming in the Champions League, and the Villans have been left impressed with his character and willingness to join them.
Emery has signed 19-year-old duo, Dutch striker Zepiqueno Redmond and Turkish defender Yasin Ozcan so far this summer, and they are also reportedly the ‘most persistent’ as clubs look to snap up Stoke City midfielder Sol Sidibe this summer.
Villa narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification for next season and are looking to bolster and reshape their squad for a better campaign across all competitions next term.
They begin their pre-season schedule against Walsall on Wednesday before further friendly games against Hansa, Eintracht Frankfurt, St. Louis, Nashville SC, AS Roma, Marseille and Villarreal.
Villa kick off the new Premier League campaign against Newcastle United at Villa Park on August 16, and they will be keen to hit the ground running and begin the season on an impressive note.
