Marca and Mundo Deportivo report that Brighton & Hove Albion intend to table a formal bid for Sevilla winger Rubén Vargas following his World Cup form, a scenario the club hope could deliver a significant summer windfall.

Sevilla rejected a 15 million euro offer from Villarreal last summer, and they now expect the Swiss international’s performances to lift his valuation.

The 27-year-old, who has Dominican heritage, has said he is focused solely on Switzerland’s last-16 tie against Colombia and will address his future once their World Cup ends. He has two goals and one assist at the tournament.

Interest has widened, with West Ham United and Trabzonspor of Türkiye tracking him.

Working within tight finances, Sevilla have targeted free agents and loans, signing Juan Iglesias, Arouna Sangante and Jon Guridi after their contracts ended, while Odysseas Vlachodimos will spend a second season on loan. To fund fee-paying arrivals, a major sale is considered necessary, with Vargas and striker Akor Adams options. Adams is attracting strong interest in Italy, and Sevilla are aiming for more than 15 million euros for him.
