Brighton & Hove Albion travel to Old Trafford this afternoon while they aim to overturn their historical FA Cup hoodoo against Manchester United.
Fabian Hürzeler’s side arrive in Manchester buoyed by a resilient 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Wednesday. The Seagulls have enjoyed significant success at the Theatre of Dreams in the Premier League recently, winning on three of their last four visits. However, they have never eliminated United from this competition in six previous attempts and will be desperate to secure a landmark victory today.
Fabian Hürzeler has hinted at making changes to his starting XI but has insisted he will only give opportunities to players who “really deserve it”. Joël Veltman and Charalampos Kostoulas have both been passed fit to return to the squad, though Yankuba Minteh faces a late check on a dead leg. Carlos Baleba remains away on international duty with Cameroon.
Notably, veteran James Milner and Yasin Ayari could anchor the midfield, while Jason Steele is expected to start in goal as Hürzeler continues his policy of rotating keepers for cup competitions. In attack, former United forward Danny Welbeck is poised to lead the line, supported by Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter. Pascal Groß, who has scored seven career goals against the Red Devils, provides another potent option in the final third.
Brighton predicted XI: Steele; Veltman, Coppola, Dunk, Kadıoğlu; Ayari, Gros; Gruda, Rutter, Watson; Welbeck
The FA Cup third-round fixture takes place at Old Trafford on Sunday, 11 January 2026. Kick-off is scheduled for 16:30 GMT.
The match will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports 1 and discovery+. Coverage starts at 16:00 GMT.
