Bristol City ‘close to appointing’ Michael Skubala after historic Lincoln promotion | OneFootball

Bristol City are close to appointing Michael Skubala as their new head coach, with talks ongoing over a three-year deal after his promotion with Lincoln City, The Telegraph reports.

Skubala led Lincoln to a 103-point League One title and a first return to the Championship in 65 years. He was named the League Managers’ Association League One manager of the season.

City had targeted Bournemouth assistant coach Tommy Elphick, who decided to remain on the south coast under new coach Marco Rose.

If a deal is finalised, Skubala would replace interim Roy Hodgson. The Robins finished 12th in the Championship, 11 points shy of the play-offs.

The 43-year-old previously served as Leeds United interim in 2022/23, replacing Jesse Marsch. He oversaw a 2-2 draw at Manchester United, then defeats to the same opponents and to Everton.

Before that he worked in the Leeds academy, taking the Under-21s and helping develop Archie Gray, Max Dean and Darko Gyabi. He later joined the first-team staff before leaving in 2023 to pursue management.
