Brian Brobbey's 80th-minute equaliser earned Sunderland a point at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs had to settle for a goalless draw against Brentford on New Year's Day and they ended up with a point again today despite taking the lead at home to the Black Cats.
Thomas Frank's side scored with a half gone in the game after a corner from the left was sent deep before being put back into the six-yard box where Ben Davies was in the right place to diver the ball in – that was the defender's first goal since December 2023.
As well as scoring, Davies also provided a crucial block later in the game after Guglielmo Vicario fumbled a cross that Trai Hume nodded down before the Welshman was able to hook it off the line.
The home side had chances to double their lead and they were left to rue those missed opportunities late on.
Brian Brobbey picked up the ball on the edge of the area where he laid it off to Enzo Le Fée who flicked it on to Brobbey to fire home – a classy goal from Régis Le Bris' men.
Tottenham fans showed their displeasure with the result as Frank was once again booed after a result that sees Tottenham finish the weekend 13th in the table while Sunderland sit eighth.
