Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has added another feather to his cap after an outstanding month of March. The Portuguese magician is enjoying a glorious run of form and has been a vital cog in the Red Devils’ rise under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

The English giants struggled for form and consistency under former head coach Ruben Amorim, who was replaced by the Englishman in January. United have subsequently climbed to third in the Premier League table after 31 games, thanks to a run of seven wins and two draws from 10 games under Carrick.

Central to the Red Devils’ resurgent form has been a marauding Fernandes operating in his favoured No. 10 position. The 31 year old’s performances last month have now been rewarded.

Premier League Player of the Month for March

The Premier League has announced that Fernandes has won the Premier League Player of the Month for March. The Portuguese enjoyed a stunning run last month, contributing to at least one goal in each of United’s four league games.

Fernandes was among seven players nominated for the award, which is voted for by fans. The Portuguese saw off stiff competition from James Garner, Danny Welbeck, Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Gordon, Alex Iwobi and David Raya to clinch the top prize for the sixth time.

Fernandes is the second United player to have won the award this season after Bryan Mbeumo, who was adjudged the winner in October last year. The Portuguese last won the award in March 2025, while his previous four wins came in 2020, when he lifted the award in February, June, November and December.

Fernandes’ record in March

Fernandes started the month with a masterclass against Crystal Palace, registering a goal and an assist to help secure a 2-1 win at Old Trafford. The Portuguese then set up Casemiro against Newcastle United in the following game, but it was not enough as United suffered a 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park.

However, the Red Devils returned to winning ways in the next game against Aston Villa, picking up a 3-1 victory, with Fernandes registering two assists. The Portuguese maestro also scored in the final game of the month against Bournemouth, where United were held to a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

The United skipper has now registered eight goals and 17 assists in 30 appearances across competitions this season, 29 of which have been starts.

Another record in sight?

Fernandes is now United’s joint-most Premier League Player of the month award winner alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Only Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah, who have all won the award a record seven times, are ahead of the mercurial Portuguese in the list.

One cannot rule out Fernandes breaking that record before the end of his tenure at the Theatre of Dreams. The player’s contract expires in just over 12 months and he is yet to sign a new deal.

While previous reports have stated that United are keen to extend their talisman’s stay at the club, a contrasting update has now emerged suggesting that some at the club are open to his departure.

Final Thoughts

Fernandes also won United’s Player of the Month for March, further highlighting his red-hot recent form. The Portuguese has won the Premier League Player of the Matchweek five times this season, the most by a player this campaign.

The former Sporting man’s renewal, as such, should be the top priority for United this summer.
