Bruno Henrique has explained his decision to stay at Flamengo in late 2023 after a drawn-out renewal, leaning on the bond he has built since 2019.

"What made me stay was the respect and affection I have for Flamengo, and the fans have for me. That was the main factor," he told Barbacast on Thursday.

"Whenever I go on the pitch I give my best, show fight and love for this shirt, and for my family. The Palmeiras offer was irresistible, and I turned it down to stay at Flamengo."

Flamengo first offered a one-year deal. Palmeiras proposed four seasons on higher pay. He prioritised Flamengo, pushed for longer terms, and the sides agreed a three-year contract running to December 2026.

He is in his final year and has played nine games in 2026 with two goals and two assists. He has not featured since the Recopa loss to Lanús at the Maracanã, missing the last three matches with pubis pain.

Another round over his future could arise late this year, as he turns 36 this season and has not yet been approached to extend. With him a doubt, Flamengo face Botafogo on Saturday 14 in the sixth round of the Brasileirão, kick-off 20:30 Brasília time at the Engenhão.
