Names are being discussed, such as former RB Leipzig head coach Marco Rose; however, his salary demands are simply too high for Wolfsburg, so he is ruled out.

The current favourite for the role is  Bruno Labbadia. The ex-striker managed the 2009 Bundesliga champions for a season and a half in 2018-19, averaging 1.52 points per game. While his last job in Germany was a tragic spell at Stuttgart, where they went backwards and flirted with relegation before Sebastian Hoeneß was brought in.

It is believed that Labbadia can bring back much-needed discipline and help get the team back on track.

If Simonis loses Wolfsburg’s next game against Hoffenheim, then he will likely be dismissed.

Wolfsburg’s chances at the top:

There could also be big changes at the top in the Volkswagen Arena.

Peter Christensen, the managing director of sport, could also lose his job. Jörg Schmadtke, who was previously sporting director at the club, could make a return, while another name mentioned is Sven Mislintat, formerly of Borussia Dortmund
