Bundesliga club sporting director convinced Real Madrid target will renew his contract – ‘Very confident’ | OneFootball

Real Madrid’s rumoured verbal agreement with Dayot Upamecano did not last long as it soon came to light that the news was false and that the player had not committed his future to either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

Talk then slowly emerged that Upamecano is not opposed to renewing his deal with Bayern Munich, especially with the German club set to hand him an important salary and role. 

Needless to say, the developments slowly moved the player away from the Spanish capital and the deal now looks further away from materialising than ever before.

Bayern administrator speaks

Bayern Munich’s sporting director Christoph Freund spoke to Florian Plettenberg in a recent interaction where he was asked about Dayot Upamecano’s situation and potential renewal with the club.

While the administrator could not provide any assurance, his reply was encouraging enough to believe that the defender may well stay in Germany and snub Real Madrid.

“It’s always difficult to say, but I am very confident,” he began, conveying that Upamecano is likely to renew.

“I’ve known Upa [Upamecano] for a very long time. He joined Salzburg when he was 16, and I know how important it is for him to feel comfortable and to play football in this specific way,” he added, elaborating on the player’s preference for comfort.

Freund then spoke about Bayern Munich’s offer and indirectly conveyed how it could well be enough for the player to stay.

“Therefore, I’m positive about what we can offer, but I cannot influence what others might do.”

Arriving on the sporting aspect, the sporting director opened up on how Bayern Munich’s style of football suited the player well, giving another reason why he is likely to stay where he is comfortable.

“The way we play football suits him extremely well. You can feel that when he is on the pitch. Because of that, we can offer him a lot as FC Bayern.”

The final factor that Freund spoke about as one driving the renewal towards success was Upamecano’s family life and how his close circle were settled and comfortable in Munich.

“His family also feels very comfortable in Munich. He knows what he has here as part of the whole package and where FC Bayern currently stand.”

“That’s why I’m very confident that he will stay with Bayern for longer,” he concluded.
