Bayern Munich make the short journey to neighbouring Augsburg for the Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday evening as they look to maintain their 100 percent start to the season. They come into this game on the back of a 3-2 win in the DFB Pokal against Wehen Wiesbaden, adding to last weekend’s 6-0 mauling of RB Leipzig after they had lifted the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup the weekend before.

Harry Kane already has six goals across three games for Bayern Munich this season, which includes a 13 minute hat-trick against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga curtain raiser last weekend. Luis Diaz and Michael Olise also starred and the trio will look to continue their excellent form this weekend. However, Augsburg won’t be an easy win, something Vincent Kompany noted in his pre-match press conference. “It’s never been easy away at Augsburg. There are reasons for that. It’ll be another special game,” said the Belgian.

Augsburg appointed Sandro Wagner (37) – who has been earmarked as an exciting young coach – in the summer, his first professional role as a head coach. After a 2-0 win over Hallescher in the DFB Pokal, Augsburg picked up an incredible 1-3 victory at Freiburg last weekend with three different goalscorers: Dimitris Giannoulis, Chrislain Matsima and Marius Wolf.

As Augsburg look to develop themselves into a club that are more than just a mid-table entity, they’ve made some promising additions throughout the summer. Matsima and Cedric Zesiger join the club on a permanent basis, and with Frank Onyeka returning to Brentford, have signed Burnley’s Han-Noah Massengo. Elias Saad – St. Pauli’s best player last season – also joins the club while promising talent Mert Kömür is now a fully fledged member of the first team.

Bayern Munich have won 10 of their last 14 games at Augsburg while Olise is the match to watch at the Rekordmeister. The Frenchman has either scored or assisted two goals in each of the last five Bundesliga games (six goals, four assists). He’s done that in seven league fixtures alone in 2025, which is a feat only compatriot Kylian Mbappé (eight) can top around Europe’s top five leagues.

Augsburg’s Alexis Claude-Maurice is sidelined while Giannoulis is also a doubt, which could see Robin Fellhauer move to left-wing-back and Kristijan Jakic starting in central-midfield alongside Massengo. Wagner didn’t start with a recognised striker against Freiburg last weekend, but Phillip Tietz is in line to start to add a focal point to FCA’s attack.

As for Bayern, they are still without long-term absentees Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito and Jamal Musiala. Kompany is expected to name an unchanged team to the one that beat RB Leipzig 6-0.
