Tyrhys Dolan starred in the Championship with Blackburn previously, and he could be a good signing for Burnley following their relegation.

Burnley have endured another miserable Premier League season, with relegation confirmed following defeat to Man City in the week.

In truth, it has been a matter of time for the Clarets, and a third relegation in five years will leave plenty of questions for the hierarchy at Turf Moor about their long-term plans and how they can try and bridge that gap.

In the short-term, there are also some big calls to be made, and Scott Parker’s future in the dugout is up for debate, with sections of the supporters wanting a change.

Once the managerial situation has been sorted, attention will turn to building a squad that can look to win another promotion, and it’s clear that the group will need refreshing.

Burnley should consider move for former Blackburn man Tyrhys Dolan

From the outside, one of the priorities for Burnley needs to be adding extra attacking quality, whilst Jaidon Anthony is one of a few players at the club that could attract interest.

So, bringing in a quick, versatile wide player is likely to be on the agenda, and Espanyol’s Tyrhys Dolan is someone that ticks a lot of boxes.

Firstly, we won’t pretend that this wouldn’t be a controversial deal.

Dolan has a close bond with Burnley’s bitter rivals Blackburn, having made over 200 appearances in blue-and-white after joining from Preston in 2020.

As well as that, Dolan was recently awarded an Honours Cap by the club, which shows he was very appreciated at Ewood Park, and the 24-year-old loved his time at the club.

Obviously, it would not go down well with the Blackburn support, and it would certainly damage Dolan’s reputation if he joined Burnley, such is the nature of the rivalry.

With that in mind, there’s no indication that Dolan would want to go, but, purely from a football perspective, it would make sense.

He would take no time to adapt to the league, he has a point to prove, he can play down either flank, and you would back him to flourish in a more attacking setup.

Furthermore, it’s a pretty straightforward transfer for Burnley to do, as ALK Capital and Alan Pace control both the Clarets and Espanyol, so it's not like they would have to pay way over the odds to get this deal done!

Tyrhys Dolan could add attacking spark to Burnley

As outlined above, Burnley need more players with pace and unpredictability, as Anthony may attract attention, and there’s no guarantee that Loum Tchaouna and Marcus Edwards will stick around.

In Dolan, they would be getting someone who has shown he can deliver at this level, as he recorded 13 goal contributions in his final season at the club.

Even though he impressed initially with Espanyol, this campaign has been tough for Dolan, who has found the net just once, so he may fancy a return to England.

If he did, the ultimate aim would be to reach the Premier League, but it’s hard to envisage any top flight clubs taking him at this moment.

So, the reality is that he would be on the radar of clubs that will be pushing for promotion, and Burnley are well positioned to bounce back given the quality in their squad, and they could help him fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

There’s no doubt this would be a very controversial transfer, and it would add another dynamic to what will be a feisty East Lancashire derby next season.

But, purely from a football perspective, after a mixed time in Spain, Dolan may want to return to England, and his qualities could make him a perfect fit for a Burnley squad that will be trying to win promotion in 12 months time.
