Burnley will be looking for a welcome respite from their Premier League struggles on Tuesday when they host League One side Cardiff City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Scott Parker’s side have found wins hard to come by in the top flight. However, they boast a remarkable nine-match winning streak at home against the Bluebirds, a record they will be confident of extending.
Cardiff arrive at Turf Moor looking to bounce back from a defeat that ended their own 10-game unbeaten run.
Scott Parker’s selection is limited by a number of injuries. He will be without long-term absentees Zeki Amdouni and Jacob Bruun Larsen. In addition, defenders Connor Roberts and Jordan Beyer are also sidelined. The manager is expected to rotate his squad heavily for the cup tie.
Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy is expected to freshen up his side following their first defeat in 11 games at the weekend. The League One outfit have few major injury concerns and may hand opportunities to players who impressed in the earlier rounds of the cup, including former Arsenal defender Calum Chambers.
The Clarets have found life difficult back in the Premier League, with just one win from their opening five matches. Their latest result was a frustrating 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, which extended their winless run to three games. However, both of their victories this season have come at Turf Moor, a ground where they have an incredible historical record against Cardiff.
The Bluebirds’ impressive 10-game unbeaten run came to a halt with a 3-1 home defeat to Bradford City on Saturday. Despite that setback, Barry-Murphy’s side have made a strong start to their League One promotion push. They have also progressed comfortably through two rounds of this competition, scoring six goals in the process.
Burnley predicted XI: Weiss; Laurent, Ekdal, Humphreys, Walker; Mejbri, Luis; Hartman, Edwards, Anthony; Broja.
Cardiff City predicted XI: Turner; Ng, Lawlor, Chambers, Bagan; Mafico, Colwill, Nyakuhwa; Robinson, Davies, Salech.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports+ in the UK. Coverage begins at 7:30 pm BST.
