Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime with a trip to Turf Moor, aiming to maintain their pursuit of the league leaders.
The Blues are in excellent form. In fact, they have won four of their last five league matches to cement their spot in the top three.
In contrast, Burnley are fighting for survival just above the relegation zone. Scott Parker’s side suffered a damaging defeat to West Ham last time out. Consequently, they will be desperate to halt a two-game losing streak against a team they have historically struggled to beat.
Scott Parker has been dealt a blow in attack. Striker Armando Broja is ruled out after picking up an ankle injury on international duty. Unfortunately, this denies him a chance to face his former club. Furthermore, defenders Jordan Beyer and Connor Roberts, along with forward Zeki Amdouni, remain long-term absentees. However, Lesley Ugochukwu is available to face his parent club. He is expected to support the in-form Zian Flemming in attack.
Enzo Maresca has confirmed a significant absence. Key attacker Cole Palmer will miss the next three games after fracturing his toe in a domestic accident. However, the manager has received a boost elsewhere. Defender Benoit Badiashile is fit to return to the squad. In addition, Enzo Fernández, Pedro Neto, and Moisés Caicedo are all available. They have successfully recovered from minor issues or returned from international duty.
The Clarets are in a precarious position. They sit 17th and are only outside the drop zone on goal difference. Their defensive record is a major concern. Indeed, they have conceded 22 goals in 11 games, which is the third-worst record in the league. Moreover, they rank bottom for almost every key attacking and defensive metric this season, including shots taken and shots faced.
The Blues are flying high in third place. Currently, they sit just six points off the top. They have found a rhythm under Maresca, recently winning important games against Tottenham and Wolves. Crucially, their away form has improved significantly. They boast back-to-back clean sheets on the road. Therefore, a win here would put pressure on their title rivals ahead of the later kick-offs.
