CAF Champions League: Esperance left waiting after Stade Malien seal qualification
Esperance suffered 1-0 defeat to Stade Malien on Sunday as the Malian side secured quarter-final qualification in CAF Champions League.
Esperance were beaten 1-0 by Stade Malien on Sunday in CAF Champions League group stage.
The result confirmed Stade Malien’s place in the quarter-finals as they strengthened their hold on first place in the group.
Esperance meanwhile missed the chance to secure early qualification and must now wait until the final round.
After the final whistle, Stade Malien moved to 11 point keeping top spot and booking their ticket to the last eight.
Esperance stayed on six point holding second place but under pressure.
The group remains tight behind the leaders. Petro Atletico are level with Esperance on six points while Simba sit bottom with two point.
The defeat means Esperance must now focus on the final group match where they will face Petro Atletico in direct battle for second place.
The winner of that match will secure the remaining qualification spot.
